Following his tenure, the hotel became entangled in a notorious election scandal when the 4th Earl Fitzwilliam issued eviction notices to 140 tenants who dared to vote against his nominees.

Though Malton Races ceased in 1904, the Talbot’s spirit endured. Post-World War II, the hotel underwent significant expansion, and in 2010, it received a multi million refurbishment, blending its rich heritage with modern amenities.
